Three bets from across this weekend’s action over in France
Nice v Monaco – Saturday
Last season’s third placed finishers host the champions this weekend in the highlight of the fifth round of fixtures. Monaco’s vast array of attacking talent was plundered during the off season and, most notably, just before the closing of the transfer window with Mbappe the biggest loss. He started just 19 games for Monaco but they won 17 of them! Without him their win rate dropped to 50% on the road so they don’t warrant being odds-on here. Nice’s home record under Favre reads W15-D4-L2. Back them to get something out of this game.

Lyon v Guingamp – Sunday
Lyon played out their first goalless draw in 35 Ligue 1 matches against Nantes before the International break but we expect much more excitement for the neutrals here. Prior to that, all of their previous 10 games stretching across the end of last and the start of this season featured at least three goals. Over the past four seasons Guingamp have lost two-thirds of their games traveling to top-six finishers. We’re expecting a high-scoring home win here.

Marseille v Rennes – Sunday
Marseille look a great acca fodder to finish the weekend as they play host to Rennes. They’ve lost just two home games since the start of last season and they came against PSG and Monaco! Rennes, meanwhile, have won just twice on the road since the start of 2016/17 so anything other than a regulation home win<would be a surprise. Rennes are currently second-bottom after a terrible start but they’ve finished mid-table in each of the last five seasons. Worryingly for the visitors, Marseille have won six of their last seven at home against middle-third sides.
