Accumulator: A number of bet selections in one single bet, where an amount is staked and the odds are multiplied to get the overall pay out. All results must be wins for the bet to go through as a win.
Angles: Considering past events while predicting future possibilities.
Ante Post: Placing bets days, weeks or months before they happen. Odds are better then.
Arbitrage: Betting a similar game or fixture across betting sites to take advantage of the different situations in each.
Asian Handicap: Asian handicap allows for a 0.25 goal, 0.5 goal and a 0.75 goal start. However in full goals handicap, 0-1, 1-0 or more, the less-likely team is given the respective no of goals head start and the favourite team disadvantaged by the number of goals handicapped, at the start of the game. Therefore for the anticipated results to be achieved, the teams have to overshadow this (dis)advantage. 0.5 handicaps can only be won or lost, unlike in 0.25, 0.75, 1.25 etc.) Where stakes are divided into two, half as if the goals are nil, half as the goals are half. So if one backs a team using this handicap, and the team wins by a half goal or more, s/he wins the whole bet. If they lose by half a goal or more, s/he loses the whole bet. Banker: A selection that is seen as a most likely possible result and is used as security in System bets.
Bankroll: Total amount set aside for betting sports.
Bet: Stake money for the possibility of an event occurring.
Betting Exchange: A setting where bettors place wagers against each other with the Exchange operator only getting a commission.
Bookie/Bookmaker: A Licensed company that accepts bets and manufactures odds for the passible outcome of the events betted on.

Chalk: The most likely to win
Chalk player: A bettor who always bets on the most likely player to win.
Correct Score: A type of betting popular with soccer where it relies on the punter’s ability to predict an exact number as the correct score so as to win a bet.
Cover: A hypothetical win where the less likely team losses with a margin considered an achievement. Against the spread. For instance if a team is usually a five goal difference loser and only lose by, say three. We say it has covered.

Dog: Underdog.
Dog player: A punter who always places his bets on the underdog.
Doubles: A two selections accumulator where both games must be successful for the bet to win
Double Action: An “if-bet” that proceeds if the precedent bet is won, tied or cancelled.
Double Chance: A special bet where the 3 normal possible outcomes are reduced to two by coupling the win/draw chances of the team betted on. Therefore chances are increased and odds are reduced. Only if the team losses that the bet is lost.
Double Result: A unique bet type where you bet results at halftime and at the end of the game in one single stake. Higher odds and reduced chances of winning because you have nine choices to choose from as compared to the standard three.
Drift: A drift is when the odds of a certain possible outcome drifts with time, maybe due to lack of support.

Each Way: A type of bet favoured by outrights. In this situation, the possibility for a win is increased with accuracy to the predicted result. If the bet is for a certain team to win, and the team manages, you may get two bet pay outs, one for the win, and the other fractional for being in the top three for example. But if the team came second or third, you only get the second fractional bet.
Edge: The bettor’s advantage in a certain bet.
Evens: Odds that multiply the stake by two (2.0)
Exotic: A propositional bet, not straight.
Exposure: The maximum amount of amount a bookmaker is ready to lose in a particular game/match.

Favourite: Most likely team to win and therefore to be betted on.
First Goal scorer: A bet placed on who to score the first goal.
First half bet: A bet placed on events to happen in the first half of a game.
Fold: The number of selections in a multiple bet where all selected bets must be successful for a win.
Form: How a team is performing in a particular time.

Half time result: A bet involving predicting the actual result of a game at the half time.
Handicap: A bet that advantages the underdogs by giving them a chance to start a game goal(s) ahead of the favourite. Odds are more than standard bet. If the teams draw, the bet is lost because the handicapped team will be the selected goals down.
Hedging: Betting in opposing original outcomes to increase the chances of winning and guarantee no losses.
Hook: Half a point added to betting lines.

Lay: Giving a betting option.
Lengthen: Increase odds.
Line: The odds at a particular time.
Lock: A low-risk bet.
Longshot: High risk bet, low chances of winning.

Match Betting: The 3way bet represented as 1×2, 1 as the home team win, x as a draw and 2 as the way win.
Multiples: A bet that is made up of a number of independent selections but have to succeed for it to count as a winning bet.

Nap: A bet considered by a betting tipster as the most valued in a particular day.
No action: When a bet returns neither a profit nor a loss, like in money backs.
Number Spread: A counter on how many goals are scored in a particular game.

Odds: A ratio that determines how big the returns of a win are in respect to money staked. Also called price.
Odds On: Odds less than Evens (2.00 decimal).
Odds Against: A price that is greater than Evens (2.00 decimal).
Over: A bet where the bettor stakes money by predicting on the statistics of a game to be above a particular fixed number, for instance corners above 3.5 for a given team; meaning a the team has to acquire 4 corners and above to win the bet.
Overlay: This is a situation where the odds of a certain fixture are abnormally high than expected.

Scout: A bettor who waits for a better odds.
Sharp: A professional bettor.
Single: The unit of betting. It’s simplest form where you select one event and it either wins or loses.
Special Bets: Unusual bets that include red cards, corners, time for score, goal scorers etc. that are emerging to attract bettors and to increase betting markets.
Spread Betting: Fractional handicapping to disadvantage or advantage teams before the game to make betting more interesting and increase betting markets.

Tipster: A person who offers or commercializes insights on how games will go to bettors.
Treble: A multiple bet that has three selections.

Under: A bet where a punter stakes money by predicting on the statistics of a game to be below a particular fixed number, for instance goals below 2.5 for a given team; meaning a the teams have to contain the game to 2 goals and below to win the bet
Underdog: The team in a game that is less likely to win.
