Schalke have looked much improved this term under Domenico Tedesco, with their only home defeat coming against Bayern. If we exclude top-five opposition they’re W9-D3-L2 at the Veltins-Arena since the start of last season and so they look a fair price against a Mainz side that continue to struggle on their travels. They’ve picked up only one point on the road so far and have now lost 12 of their last 16 away, netting just nine goals across these.
Indeed, they were beaten 3-0 in this fixture last term and we can envisage something similar this time around (Schalke have won this clash in the last three seasons). We wouldn’t put anyone off the win to nil at around 2/1, but we’ll stick with the straight win for our best bet.
