Arsenal v West Brom

Can Arsenal start their season with three consecutive home wins?

Arsenal may be down in 12th before this weekend’s action but they steadied the ship with their stalemate at Chelsea and have started the season with consecutive home wins, meaning they’ve now won their last seven at the Emirates and kept a clean sheet in five of these. They’ve netted at least twice in eight of their last nine there including seven goals in two home matches this term, and were W13-D1-L1 hosting teams who finished below them last term.

West Brom are yet to face any of the top sides, but were a dreadful W1-D2-L11 against the top seven last season (D1-L6 away), failing to score in eight of these defeats. Whilst Wenger holds a poor record away to Tony Pulis sides, at the Emirates he fares much better – winning all nine encounters, accompanying six with a clean sheet, and so we’ll back a home win to nil.

When taking his Stoke, Palace and West Brom teams to the Emirates over the last six seasons, Pulis has seen his side go in level at the break in four, as they did last term, and we don’t expect him to go toe-to-toe playing expansive football here. Given nine of Arsenal’s last 13 home victories have come after being level at the break we think there’s some value in the Draw/Arsenal half-time/full-time.

The Gunners have made a habit of scoring late in home games, netting the final goal in each of their last 15 at the Emirates, with the last goal scored after 80 minutes in nine of these. The Baggies have not been strangers to late goals either, with a goal in the last 10 minutes in eight of their last 13 on the road including fixtures at Arsenal, Spurs and Man City, whilst in the game prior to this run they conceded in the 76th minute against Chelsea.
