Man City travel to the Netherlands to take on Feyenoord at De Kuip.
Feyenoord are competing in the Champions League group stages for the first time since 2002/03 and they’ll be hoping for a similar result as they managed here in their opening Europa League last term, when they beat Man Utd 1-0 at De Kuip. Indeed, they also beat Sevilla here in 2014/15 and City look on the short side at 1.45, particularly as they’ve won just nine of 26 Champions League away matches since 2011/12 and only five of these by more than one goal. We’re siding with Feyenoord +1 on the Asian Handicap, which means if they avoid defeat our bet’s a winner and if they get beaten by just one goal, we get our stake back.
Feyenoord v Man City [Asian Handicap]
Feyenoord are generally very strong defensively – they conceded only 11 home goals in the Eredivisie last term and their Europe League games last term proved to be tight as all three at home saw fewer than two goals. Indeed, we think this might be a cagey encounter with Giovanni van Bronckhorst setting up his side to be tough for City to break down and Under 2.5 Goals looks a big price.
Feyenoord v Man City [Total Goals Over/Under]
With the exception of their victory over Liverpool, City have generally taken a while to get going this term as they hadn’t led at the break in any of their matches prior to that and they’ve in fact conceded first against both Everton and Bournemouth. Admittedly against lesser opposition, Feyenoord have an excellent first-half record as they’ve led at the break in 15 of their 19 home league games since the start of last term and so we’ll take a chance on Feyenoord/Draw Half-Time/Full-Time.
