Four of CSKA’s last seven at home in Europe have finished 1-1.

CSKA managed an impressive away win at Benfica on matchday one, but having only secured three wins across the previous four editions of the Champions League we think they’ll struggle to replicate that success here. They’re a meagre W2-D5-L5 at home over that period, but having drawn five of the last six of these that came against top-20 sides in Europe, they’re certainly no pushovers. Given English clubs have only won four of 15 trips to face Russian sides in Europe since 2011/12, drawing six of these games, we think there’s more value to be found backing the stalemate. Indeed, Man Utd could only manage a draw at Rostov en route to their Europa League success last term.

Six of CSKA’s last seven at home in the Champions League have seen fewer than three strikes, and given six of Man Utd’s seven road trips under Mourinho in Europe have also seen Under 2.5 Goals, whilst the same has occurred in 19 of the last 22 matches where Russian sides have hosted an English team since 2003/04, that looks a great price. In fact, since Mourinho returned to England with his second spell at Chelsea, 10 of the 14 away matches he’s taken charge of in Europe have seen two goals or fewer.

Both teams have scored in nine of CSKA’s last 12 on home soil, whilst Man Utd kept a clean sheet in less than half their away games in Europe last term, drawing 1-1 with Anderlecht and Rostov.
