Chelsea v Everton

Can Everton get a morale-boosting win in the EFL Cup?

It was another miserable night for Everton in the Europa League as they went down 2-1 at home to Lyon and they’ve been even worse on the road as they’ve lost three of four winless away games in all competitions, including 2-0 and 4-0 defeats at Chelsea and Man Utd respectively in the league. The Blues aren’t in the best of form themselves but Conte will no doubt be keen to use this clash to restore some confidence and he played a pretty strong side in the last round, with the likes of Hazard, Bakayoko, Fabregas and Cahill all starting. Everton continue to look short of ideas up front, while they’ve only managed one goal in their last four on the road.

Indeed, Chelsea have won their last three meetings with the Toffees without conceding and Everton have failed to score in four of their last five trips to Stamford Bridge. The Blues won their three FA Cup home games last term by an aggregate of 9-1, whilst they’ve netted eight in their two home EFL cup games in the last couple of seasons. They put three past Roma and six past Qarabag, whilst they also netted five against Nottingham Forest in the last round and so we’re backing Over 2.5 Chelsea Goals.

Michy Batshuayi scored a hat-trick in the last round against Forest and also netted in one of his two other home starts this term against Qarabag. It was a similar case last term as he netted a brace in Chelsea’s only home EFL Cup tie, and in the two home FA Cup clashes in which he started. The Belgian’s also managed three goals in his last two home league starts as he always seems to get on the scoresheet when given the chance at the Bridge.
