After a disappointing defeat against Deportivo in mid-April, Malaga have kicked on with two wins to maintain their modest but respectable position in the Primera División table. 2-0 wins against Valencia and at Granada have put them in the box seat for this Monday evening game against Sevilla, who have endured a rough run of form away from home. Five winless away games across all competitions will give them little confidence ahead of this clash with a side 29 points and 10 places back in the standings.
Sevilla’s away form in the league leaves much to be desired. They’ve failed to score in each of their last two road outings as part of a four-match run without a win on their travels, and they’ve not won an away game against a side currently in the top half since they beat Real Sociedad on 7 January. That said, they’ve done well against bottom-half sides, going undefeated in their last 11 matches against such opposition, but four of the last six in this run were draws. One thing that will give them confidence is Malaga’s poor record against top-half non-Big Two sides: they’ve lost seven in a run of eight without a win, and they’ve failed to score in each of the last five losses.
Sevilla’s poor away form means the bookies have priced them up, but they’ve not lost to Malaga since early 2014 and they’ve won four of the five clashes between these two since then. A Sevilla win is a decent bet, but given Malaga’s weak scoring record we’ll side with an away win to nil for a bit more value.
