Juventus v Barcelona Betting Tips & Preview

Barca’s poor record at Italian sides points to a Juve victory in the first leg at the Juventus Stadium.

Barcelona pulled a six-goal rabbit out of the hat in the last round against PSG, overturning the 4-0 defeat they suffered in Paris in the first leg to run out 6-1 winners in dramatic fashion at the Nou Camp. The Catalans will be hoping for a better away performance in Tuesday’s game in northern Italy against Juventus, who successfully overcame Porto in the round of 16. Juve won yet again at home against Chievo at the weekend, but they will be wary of Barca, who beat them in the final of this competition two years ago.
Despite this victory, Barcelona’s efforts at Italian sides in the competition have been weak recently. Since 2009/10 they’ve gone W1-D4-L2 at Italian teams, scoring more than once on only one occasion in that run. They’ve been level at the break in eight of their last nine away against Italian sides, so we might well see them keep it close against Juventus, who last lost at the J Stadium in European competition to Bayern in 2013, 21 matches ago. The only team from the Big Five leagues Barca have beaten on the road in Europe this season has been Borussia Monchengladbach, and based on their showing at Parc des Princes we’d be surprised to see them shock Juve here.
The bookies have this marked as a pretty even contest, which we think is surprising given Barca have scored three and conceded 10 at teams from the Big Five leagues in the last 12 months – losing at Man City and Atletico as well as Gladbach. We’ll side with the home win as a result.
